Dear family, friends, and patients

Tonight is New Year's Eve, as tradition dictates, I want to say Thank you to all of you who have trusted me and given me the opportunity to be your family physician.  I am beyond happy to be of help to you and your loved ones and I am looking forward to seeing you again in the upcoming year. Your loyalty, love and support are greatly appreciated and I’m forever grateful.

I would also like to say thank you to my devoted medical staff. Throughout the years, I have had the opportunity to work with many different medical staff. However, your group stands out as a group of employees who are inspirational to me with your hard work dedication, compassion, enthusiasm, love, and integrity.  I am fully cognizant of the hard work, compassion, and dedication that each of you put in every day to serve our patients.  I understand that COVID-19 pandemic has not made things easy but having you as employees were tremendously and a must have medical staff in surviving the hardship brought upon us in the past couple of years.

In lieu of the New Year celebration, I want to wish every patient, clinic personnel, family, friends here at home and abroad a happy new year.  May the new year bring you and family love, health, happiness, and prosperity.

Wishing you all the best,

Honors and remembers all who served

Dear Patients, family, and friends,

As I send this greeting, I hope it finds you well and in a peaceful state of mind. As Veterans Day draws near on Monday, we must take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by the courageous men and women who have protected our nation. This day is more than simply a holiday; it's a solemn occasion to give thought to the people who lost their lives defending the freedoms we take for granted.

We must never forget the families of these brave individuals when we reflect. In addition, the parents and wives of our soldiers have suffered a great deal of burden since their loved ones went and, in some cases, never returned. They are feeling both loss and pride. We must congratulate them both and recognize the enduring impact that sacrifice and service have on the lives of veterans and their families. Furthermore, we owe an immense obligation to our service members who have persevered through the most difficult situations and, in doing so, have protected and upheld the values that define our amazing nation. Even if we may never be able to pay, it is imperative that we make every attempt to fulfill our commitment.

On this special day, I extend my heartfelt wishes for a Happy Veterans Day to all American veterans. We are really grateful for your courage and dedication; your kindness is much appreciated. I extend my heartfelt sympathies and profound thanks to the families who have lost a loved one while defending our nation. Our country is forever changed by your sacrifice, and for that we are grateful and in remembering.

This Veterans Day, may it serve as a reminder of our debt, of the sacrifices made, and of the enduring spirit of those who have served without asking anything in return.

Sincerely,

Dr. Le

Dear Patients, Family, and Friends,

Halloween celebration is around the corner, and as tradition dictates, I want to write a personal greeting to all of my patients, friends, and family. I hope this message finds you and your loved ones in the most peaceful state of mind. May this Halloween celebration give you some time to rest and fill your hearts with joy, love, and happiness.

As we are about to celebrate this magnificent Halloween holiday, I have done some research and would like to share a brief fact about its significance. Halloween is an Irish festival called Samhain, which began roughly 1200 years ago and was later adopted by the early Catholic Church. This holiday marks the end of summer and the harvest season, as well as the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time associated with gloominess, sadness, and death. Although Halloween is now more of a secular holiday where people play pranks and wear various costumes to mimic those who have passed away, it also holds religious significance, reflecting the early Catholic Christian perspective. The Celtic people of that time viewed the world through a fundamental dichotomy between light and dark. Light symbolized positive, lucky, and fruitful values, while dark represented negative, threatening, and destructive values. It wasn't until 1894 that Halloween customs were brought to the United States by immigrants from Ireland, Scotland, and other Celtic regions.

I understand that it has been a challenging year for all of us, with the ongoing recovery and resurgence of the COVID-19 infection. We have weathered it together. The summer season passed quickly, and now we're at the beginning of the fall season. It is hard not to reflect on the past 2 1/2 years, starting with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I encourage us all to let bygones be bygones and embrace a new beginning. Let's recuperate and enjoy the gatherings with our loved ones, the human touch that was temporarily taken away from us by the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly placed significant stress on all of us. In clinical research, stress is known to have a major influence on our sense of well-being, behavior, and health. There are many ways to reduce stress. I encourage many of you to engage in regular physical activity, such as walking, jogging, running, or playing sports of your choice. Whether you can spare 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or even just 10 minutes per day, it is irrelevant; any time you dedicate to exercise will ultimately benefit your health. I also encourage you to include vegetables and fruits in your diet. These foods contain essential vitamins and minerals that help neutralize harmful molecules produced by your body when under stress.

I want to take this moment to thank all of my patients for placing their trust in me for their healthcare needs. Your well-being is my top priority, and I am dedicated to providing you with the best medical care possible. Our clinic is open six days a week, including Saturdays, to accommodate your busy schedules, and our dedicated medical staff is available to answer your questions and address your concerns. We are continuously expanding our services to better serve you. We now offer on-site COVID-19, flu, Group A strep, and RSV testing. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have also introduced telemedicine services for those of you who are unwell and unable to come to the office. However, I urge you to come in for an in-person visit unless you are severely ill.

Lastly, I would like to share some exciting news with you. My fiancée, Lena Le, has successfully passed her nursing board exams and is looking forward to starting her advanced nursing program. She will soon be joining our clinic, bringing her compassion, dedication, and loving nature to our team. Our wedding is scheduled for April 20th, 2024, and I am eagerly anticipating the new chapter we will be embarking on together as we build a small family. Lena and I plan to have children and remain in our current residence for many years to come.

From both Lena and me, we wish you and your loved ones a Happy Safe Halloween!

Warm wishes,

Dr. Le

Celebrating Lena's Remarkable Achievement in the World of Nursing

I trust this message puts you in a favorable frame of mind. I am delighted to share that earlier today, I became aware of a significant development: my fiancée, Lena, has successfully passed her NCLEX with an exceptionally high score.  As some of you may not know, it is a board exam for graduate nursing students who aspire to practice a nursing profession in the United States has to pass this exam.

Lena truly deserves recognition for this remarkable achievement. My association with her spans 18 months, during which I firmly believe she is one of the most exceptional individuals I have ever encountered. Her outstanding demonstration of attention, compassion, and dedication in her chosen vocation is particularly noteworthy. Her inclusion in the nursing community undoubtedly brings enrichment. Lena possesses an extraordinary ability to forge deep personal bonds with patients, all the while maintaining the utmost levels of professionalism. This sets her apart from her peers, creating an air of distinctiveness. Her genuine care for people and understanding of their needs have remarkably impacted their healing journey and overall well-being.

I take immense pride in her accomplishments and eagerly await more triumphs in the years ahead. Lena represents hope and inspiration for many, and she will likely exceed expectations in caring for her patients. Those under her care are undeniably fortunate, as I firmly believe she will facilitate the restoration of their physical health and emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. Lena's distinct restoration method differentiates her from numerous peers in her domain, guaranteeing a profound and significant rapport with every individual she engages with. Her unwavering commitment to the comprehensive well-being of her patients echoes loudly about her nature and the enthusiasm she infuses into her vocation.

May her journey in the nursing profession be marked by continual personal and professional growth, adeptly navigating challenges, and accumulating valuable and diverse experiences. I eagerly look forward to our upcoming wedding and the bright joint future we'll build.

A Lifelong Commitment to Community Care: Dr. Le’ s Journey of Giving Back

To all my patients, family, and friends,

I hope you are doing well and joyed the Labor Day weekend. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce

myself to those who haven’t had the opportunity to meet me yet. My name is Dr. Le. I am excited to

share a bit about my life and the path that brought me to become a doctor.

I was born in Vietnam to Vietnamese parents and my early years were marked by many

obstacles and difficulties. Growing up, my family faced difficulties and I did not experience the

typical structure of a traditional family. In 1991, when I was 15 years old, circumstances led me

to relocate to the United States, where I moved with my father and stepmother. It was here that I

embarked on a path that shaped who I am today. After graduating from Gainesville High School

in Gainesville, Georgia I pursued a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from North Georgia State

University in Dahlonega, Georgia. Driven by my passion for education and desire to serve the community

around me,  I set out on a mission to earn a medical degree from Edward Via School of Osteopathic

Medicine.

My devotion to serving my people further took me to Bluefield, West Virginia, where I

undertook a family medicine residency at Bluefield Regional Medical Center (BRMC). I have

now known Bluefield, Virginia, as my home for the past 14 years, and I could not be more than

proud to be part of this great community. I have a special place in my heart for our local high school

teams, including the Beavers, G-Men, and the Tigers. Being a proud supporter of these teams brings me

immense joy, and I make it a point to attend as many games as my schedule allows. Whether it is

cheering for the Beavers, G-Men, or the Tigers, I am passionate about our local sports community and

deeply committed to our young athletes’ success. During my leisure time, I enjoy various genres of

music, but I have a particular affection for songs with soothing melodies and well-written lyrics. It is my

way of finding moments of relaxation and reflection in the midst of a busy life.

2

I am an ex-BRMC physician, and since it’s close down, I have had the honor of opening a

magnificent family medicine clinic in the heart of Bluefield, Virginia. I apply a holistic approach

in healthcare, where each patient is regarded as an individual with their own unique needs and

concerns. At Westwood Family Medicine, you can expect a customized and focused approach to

your healthcare because I am the single physician attending your case at our clinic. Our clinic sees

patients of all ages and accepts all forms of insurance and we are currently accepting new patients and

walks-in. We have a great weight loss program which has helped so many patients obtain their desire

weights and objectives. To help those patients that can’t come during the 8-5 hours appointment and

better accommodate those patients that come from some our physicians have recently retired,  I

have extended our clinic hours and even open on Saturday morning from 9Am to 1 PM each week.

My sense of fulfillment in being a U.S citizen stems from my childhood, which taught me

the values of humility, commitment, compassion, and gratitude. I incorporate these virtues in my

medical practice, and I am truly grateful to be your family physician. I find abundant joy in

attending to patients and am always excited to welcome new patients and walk-ins. Our medical

staff is an enthusiastic group of professionals who are dedicated to assisting you and ensuring

you receive the highest quality care you deserve.

Thank you for placing your trust in me for your healthcare needs. I am genuinely excited

about the opportunity to continue serving our incredible community. Whether you require

medical attention or have any inquiries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Your health and

well-being remain my utmost priority.

Warm regards,

Labor Day Wishes from Dr. Le

                                                                                       September 1, 2023

Dear patients, families, and friends,

As Labor Day weekend approaches, I want to extend my heartfelt greetings and well wishes for a safe and pleasant holiday. This occasion provides a moment of respite to honor the contributions of all workers across the nation—a time to connect with loved ones and an opportunity to embrace the historical significance of this holiday. Labor Day, initially recognized to acknowledge the labor society and the social and economic endeavors of American workers, holds a significant history that dates back to the late 19th century. It acts as a reminder of the progress made in working environments and labor rights, while also serving as an honor to the enthusiasm of individuals who have contributed to the progress of our country.

.

Amidst these reflections, we find ourselves facing the ongoing challenge of the Coronavirus pandemic. What began as a novel viral epidemic has evolved into a global health crisis, impacting lives and populations around the world. Today, millions of lives have been lost to the virus, reminding us of the significance of vigilance and informed decision-making. However, there is hope on the horizon as the medical community relentlessly works on research and development to mitigate the virus. Our clinic remains committed to staying updated on these advancements under my leadership. With an in-depth understanding of the pandemic's roots and progression, we provide informed care services and up-to-date data to our patients.

I extend an open invitation to all patients to reach out to me with any inquiries or concerns you may have regarding Coronavirus or any other medical questions. My clinic prides itself on providing top-tier care, accepting all insurance services, and being determined to accommodate the various needs of our communities, particularly Mercer, Tazewell, and McDowell counties. I am delighted to share that we have extended our clinic hours to include Saturdays, allowing patients with weekday commitments access to quality care. My staunch commitment to patient well-being has earned us a reputation for going above and beyond to meet the needs of our patients in emerging situations.

As an osteopathic physician, I am adept with OMT, which is an effective treatment for chronic back pain caused by muscle strain or spasm. Our clinic also offers a highly regarded weight loss program that has helped many patients meet their desired objectives. I take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all our patients who have trusted us with your care. Your support and loyalty inspire me to constantly strive for excellence.

On a personal note, I am excited to share that I am looking forward to my wedding on April 20, 2024. My future wife Lena and I will continue to live at our current residence in Bluefield, Virginia, and provide medical care to our communities for many years to come.

Best regards,

Dr. Hiep Le - Physician at Westwood Family Medicine Clinic.

                                                                                                    August 14, 2023

To our esteemed patients, family, and friends

I trust this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As we approach the threshold of 2024, I am pleased to offer you updates concerning our clinic's journey, my personal endeavors, and the bright horizons that lie ahead.

Foremost, I wish to convey my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you. Your trust and steadfast loyalty hold immense significance for us. Your choice of entrusting your healthcare needs to our clinic is truly an honor we deeply cherish. We recognize that there have been challenges along the way, particularly relating to our staff, which might have caused disappointment among some of you. I wish to openly acknowledge these past issues and extend my assurance that we have been earnestly addressing them to elevate your clinic experience.

I am excited to share the news that our clinic is growing! We are expanding our services and extending our operating hours to ensure we meet all your needs. Rest assured we are dedicated to your well-being. We are actively looking for talented medical professionals to join our team. With this expansion, we will be able to offer more comprehensive and easily accessible care for you and your loved ones. Joann, our esteemed receptionist, has been an integral and dependable part of our team for many years. Although there have been some concerns raised about her communication style, it is important to understand that Joann never intends any harm. She genuinely cares about every patient, takes her role seriously, always striving to be honest and sincere. I’m working closely with Joann to ensure that she consistently interacts with you in a kind and professional manner.

The weight loss program has been a significant factor in our clinic’s success. This program has helped many patients reach their weight loss objectives and its proven track record stands as evidence. We take pride in supporting you on your path to a healthier lifestyle and we are committed to assisting you in attaining success. As a clinic, we are dedicated to providing the best quality care. At times we have had to make tough decisions, including discharging patients who fail to adhere to prescribed treatments or attended follow up visits. Please know that these decisions were made with your interests in mind and out of genuine care for your well-being. Extensive research indicates that noncompliance can potentially result in emergencies and our primary concern is always your safety and health. We remain open to the possibility of reevaluating discharged patients on a regular basis that prioritizes the promotion of your overall well-being. I encouraged those of you who have been discharged from our clinic for various reasons to call our clinic to be reevaluated so that we can get you back to see us.

Personally, I am really thrilled to share some news with you all. I recently found love and companionship with an amazing woman named Lena. Our paths initially crossed 18 months ago through an online dating platform. Lena is an individual who is kind, intelligent and passionate. These qualities have truly brought immense happiness and purpose into my life. Having her by my side has made me a better person. I am incredibly grateful for her presence. With joy, we want to announce our engagement and eagerly anticipate celebrating our union in the spring of 2024. Lena’s journey has also led her to pursue a career in nursing. After graduating from nursing school she has become a registered nurse and has ambitions of establishing herself as a nurse practitioner in the near future. I kindly request your welcome and support as Lena joins our clinic and community hospital, passing her expertise and compassionate care to our patients. As we continue to progress and expand, we remain dedicated to providing exceptional care. Our clinic is actively accepting patients and individuals from all backgrounds are welcomed as walk ins. Your well-being is our priority and we are ecstatic about the opportunity to serve you and your loved ones for years to come.

As conclude, I want to express my appreciation to all of you – our valued patients, families and friends – for your unwavering support and love. Lena and I are thrilled to enter this phase of our lives together, staying in our current home and eagerly anticipating the potential of starting a family. Your ongoing trust is immensely important to us. We eagerly anticipate providing you with the highest level of care and dedication.

Best regards,

Dr. Hiep Le

Dear Patients, family, and friends,

I hope you all get a well-deserved rest this Labor Day weekend, and I wanted to give you a little history
on Labor Day. On May 11, 1894, employees of the Pullman Palace Car Company in Chicago went on
strike to protest wage cuts and the firing of union representatives. On June 26, the American Railroad
Union, led by Eugene V. Debs, called for a boycott of all Pullman railway cars, which crippled railroad
traffic nationwide. To break the Pullman strike, the federal government dispatched troops to Chicago,
which led to a wave of riots that resulted in the deaths of more than a dozen workers. To try to repair
the damage done, Congress passed an act to establish Labor Day as a holiday. On June 28, 1894,
President Grover Cleveland signed it into law. Today, Labor Day is celebrated across the United States
with parades, picnics, barbecues, and fireworks. It is a day meant to show respect for the hard work that
the American people put in each day at their jobs.

On behalf of Westwood family medicine medical staff and myself, I want to wish you all a safe and
happy Labor Day!

Wishing you all the best,

Dr. Le

Re: Update of the Monkeypox outbreak.

I just wanted to provide you all some information on the current Monkeypox outbreak.
Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by the Monkeypox virus. Monkeypox is like smallpox in
that it can be spread from infected humans, animals, and materials contaminated with the
virus, but overall, it is less transmissible and less severe than smallpox. The virus was first
identified in 1958 and is found primarily in Central and West African countries. There is a recent
significant increase in reported cases where Monkeypox is not commonly seen, including in
Europe, Canada, the United States and California. While there are cases being reported in the
US, I want you to also know that the current risk of getting Monkeypox in the general public is
very low.

Monkeypox might start with flu-like symptoms with fever, low energy, swollen lymph nodes,
and general body aches. After 1-3 days of getting a fever, a person can develop a rash or sores.
They can look like pimples or blisters and may be painful and itchy. The rash or sores may be
located on or near the genitals or anus but could also be on other areas like the hands, feet,
chest, and face.  People with Monkeypox may experience all or only a few of these symptoms,
but most people with Monkeypox will get the rash or sores.

Furthermore, Monkeypox can be spread through direct skin-skin contact with rash lesions,
sexual/intimate contact (including kissing), living in a house and sharing a bed with an infected
person, sharing towels or unwashed clothing, and through respiratory secretions through
prolonged face-to-face interactions. I write you all this information not to scare you, but to
keep you informed on what we are currently facing. I hope this information is helpful and gives
you a better understanding of the Monkeypox virus.

Wishing you all the best,
Dr. Hiep Le

Dear patients, family, and friends,

Independence Day, or simply the “Fourth of July” for most Americans, marks the birthday of the
United States as an independent and free nation. As we celebrate the Fourth of July with
picnics and fireworks, let us not forget the significance of the historic day. The holiday
celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1976. At the time, the
people of the 13 British colonies on the Atlantic Coast of America were fighting against unjust
treatment by the king in Britain. As the war continued, the colonists realized that they were
fighting for much more than just better treatment; they were fighting for independence from
England’s rule. We at Westwood Family Medicine want to wish you all a happy Fourth of July.

We also want to provide you all with some updated information on COVID-19. As of July 2022,
there have been 87,407,521 total cases of COVID 19 with 1,013,261 resulting deaths. There
continues to be around 110,000 daily new cases with 5,000 daily hospitalizations and daily 300
deaths. I say this not to instill fear into you but to bring to light that COVID-19 is still rampant
among us and that it is still necessary to take precautions when possible. There has only been
34% of Americans that have received at least the first booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccination
and only about 6% that have also received a second dose. I encourage those that have not
already done so to get vaccinated against COVID-19 to prevent serious complications of the
virus. Currently there are three vaccines available from Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and
Johnson. Pfizer and Moderna have been FDA approved for use in individuals 6 months and
older, while Johnson and Johnson is approved for individuals 18 years old and older.

Furthermore, I want to remind you all that COVID-19 is a virus and that it continuously mutates,
which means that it is expected for there to be new variants in the future. This makes it
imperative for us to get vaccinated to combat the virus. In addition to the vaccines, Paxlovid is a
medication that has been seen to reduce symptoms in COVID-19 patients.
As always, please enjoy this holiday with your loved ones but also be as safe as you can be. I
wish you all a happy Fourth of July.

Wishing you all the best,

Dr. Hiep Le

Dear patient, family, and friends,

Thanksgiving Day is almost here, and I am thinking about each and every one of you that have given me the opportunity to be your primary care physician.  It is a privilege to be entrusted with your healthcare and I’m forever grateful!  I hope that all of you have at least one thing you were thankful for in 2021. I am thankful for the science that allowed us to develop the Covid 19 vaccine.  I am thankful that we are slowly able to transition to a life post Covid pandemic and began to enjoy the things in life that were taken from us in 2020.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us look back on history to see how far we have come and the reason to celebrate this special day. In September 1620, the Mayflower left Plymouth, England carrying 100 passengers of religious separatists that were seeking a home where they could freely practice their faith along with other individual lured by the prospects of prosperity and opportunity for land ownership in the New World. After an enduring journey that lasted months, the Mayflower crossed the Massachusetts Bay where the Pilgrims begun setting up a home at Plymouth.

There is an abundant of data and science that backs up the effectiveness of Covid vaccines against COVID-19 and its symptoms. Nevertheless, there are still many people still have doubts and have yet to get their Covid vaccine.  I want to take this opportunity to encourage each and every one of you to consider getting this vaccine if there are no contraindications.  We cannot expect things to change if we are not willing to work together and protect ourselves and those people around us by getting vaccinated.

On behalf of the Westwood family medicine staff and myself, I want to wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all the best,

Dr Le

increased risk of COVID-19 because of their workplaces or institutional settings.

October 7, 2021: Pfizer and BioNTech say they are seeking FDA emergency use authorization for their
COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.

Possible new COVID-19 drug: Molnupiravir:

Molnupiravir is an experimental antiviral drug which is orally active and was developed for the
treatment of influenza.

In late July 2020, Merck announced its intention to move molnupiravir to late stage trials beginning in
September 2020 for treatment of COVID-19. On October 19, 2020, Merck began a one year Stage 2/3
trial consisting of hospitalized patients.

In October 2021, preliminary clinical trial results showed that molnupiravir reduced the risk of
hospitalization and death from COVID-19 by about 50% for newly diagnosed, high-risk patients. The drug
worked equally well against different COVID-19 variants, including delta, gamma, and mu. It worked so
well that one of Merck’s Phase 3 trial boards that evaluated efficacy of the drug recommended early
discontinuation of the trial because it had met predetermined endpoints and that placebo
administration might no longer be ethical considering the drug’s substantial benefit to patients.

Common questions frequently asked by patients in the clinic.

How effective is the convalescent plasma as a treatment for covid 19 infection?
The final results of the Clinical Trial of COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in Outpatients (C3PO)
demonstrate that COVID-19 convalescent plasma did not prevent disease progression in a high-risk
group of outpatients with COVID-19, when administered within the first week of their symptoms. The
trial was stopped in February 2021 due to lack of efficacy based on a planned interim analysis.

Are monoclonal antibodies e.g. Tocilizumab, Regen-COV etc.  effective in treating covid patients?
Tocilizumab is a monoclonal antibody against interleukin-6 receptor-alpha that is used to treat certain
inflammatory diseases. Better outcomes in patients with severe Covid-19 pneumonia who received
tocilizumab have been observed in case reports and supported by retrospective observational cohort
studies that showed a rapid reduction in fever, a reduced use of oxygen support and mechanical
ventilation, and a reduction in lung manifestations.

If I had a blood test positive for COVID- 19 antibodies does that mean I am immune to the coronavirus in
the future?

People who have had COVID-19 or tested positive for antibodies should not assume they're protected
from getting a COVID-19 infection again. Researchers are trying to determine if antibodies provide some
immunity to the COVID-19 virus, what the level of protection is and how long immunity may last.

I had the first covid vaccine and came down with the COVID infection. Should I get the second dose of
the covid vaccine to be fully vaccinated?

Yes, studies have shown that the vaccines are most effective when you have received the full doses.

Is the Moderna vaccine an approved or authorized vaccine?

The Moderna vaccine is currently an authorized vaccine.

Is the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine an approved or authorized vaccine?

The Janssen vaccine is current an authorized vaccine.

I had the Janssen-COVID 19 vaccine. Is there a boost vaccine for it? If not, can I get Pfizer BioNTech
COVID 19 vaccine or Moderna COVID 19 vaccine as a substitute boost?

Janssen is currently seeking FDA approval for COVID-19 booster. You should not attempt to get a
substitute of Pfizer or Moderna in the meantime.

I heard that there are two antiviral medications Remdesivir and Molnupiravir now available for treating
covid patients. Are they in the pill form and which one is more effective? Which one has more side
effects?

Both drugs are available in pill form. Data is currently limited in regard to which drug is more effective
but each drug has shown good results in their own respective trials.

Remdesivir may cause:
• nausea
• constipation
• pain, bleeding, bruising of the skin, soreness, or swelling near the place where the medication was
injected

Molnupiravir studies have been inconclusive as to whether side effects were due to the drug or COVID-
19 itself.

Make your health a priority, come see us at Westwood Family Medicine!

I moved to Bluefield roughly 12 years ago and fell in love with the people and many attractions in this mountain state.  The overall experience for the past 12 years has been fantastic.  The different culture with beautiful surroundings along with a warm and welcoming community have made my relocation from Georgia so much easier.  Thank you, Bluefield, and Princeton, for giving me such a spectacular accommodation and making me feel at home.  I am proud to wake up each morning and serve this community as best that I can.  I want to thank all current and past patients that have entrusted us at Westwood family medicine to take care of your health care needs.  It has been an amazing experience serving this community and I look forward to many more years ahead.  I want to assure you all that we are constantly listening to feedback that we received from patients and make the necessary changes to provide the most quality healthcare to our patients. With that said, we have hired new staff and provided additional training to better serve you all.  Our office is currently accepting new patients and walk-ins.

I want to wish all of you a happy Fourth July and I hope you are able to spend the holiday with all of your loved ones.  I understand everyone is excited to finally start celebrating these holidays together, but I hope everyone still understand the risks of COVID-19 and the need for us to get vaccinated.  New data has consistently shown that the vaccines are effective against the new Delta variant and that the pros far outweigh the cons.  Please do your part in fighting the virus by getting vaccinated!

Best wishes,

Dr. Hiep Le

Dear Patients family and friends,

I hope everyone is having a great Father’s Day weekend.  Roughly 110 years ago the Father’s Day was celebrated in Spokane Washington by Sonora Smart Dodd. Ms. Dodd established this holiday to express her appreciation to her father who raised her along with 5 other siblings. Father's Day has been dedicated as a national holiday and it is a time to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the fathers and father figure in our lives. As we are celebrating this special day, let us not forget and pray for those whose fathers have succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I' m hoping that each one of you would take this time to relax and enjoy the company of your father. Slowly, things are returning to normal and that is exciting for us all.  Stay safe and have a great Father’s Day weekend everyone!

warmest wishes

Dr. Hiep le. Westwood Family Medicine staff physician.

Dear patients, family, and friends

Today, Juneteenth, is an important milestone in history, as signifies the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the United States.  Furthermore, today is the first Juneteenth that is recognized as a federal holiday after President Joe Biden signed into law.  The Westwood family medicine staff would like to wish each of you a Happy Juneteenth.

With that said, we are Westwood family medicine, recognizes that there are discrepancies in access to healthcare and disparities in the level of care throughout underserved areas.  We pride ourselves in doing our part in combating healthcare disparities by providing high-level medical care without prejudice to all our patients.

As we reflect on Juneteenth and celebrate its significance, we encourage each one of you to focus on the progress we have made toward equality but also recognize the changes that still need to be made.

Dear patients’ family and friends

As we are celebrating the Memorial Day weekend, I would like to wish each one of you a happy and safe
Memorial Day. I have done some research about this special holiday and want to share with you about
the origin of the Memorial Day. Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration’s Day, is an American
holiday observed on the last month of May to remember the fallen men and women of the US military.
It originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official holiday in United States in 1971.
Memorial Day is a day to honor, reflect, and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for
our freedom. I hope you are all able to celebrate with your families safely this year whether it be with
BBQ, relaxing or playing fun games together.

As many of you are, I am so happy that we finally started to turn the corner on the COVID-19 pandemic
and a sense of hope of returning to normal life is among all Americans, but there are strong reasons to
remain cautious. To give you a new perspective on COVID-19, India now has 27,894,800 cases with a
total death count of 325,972 with 3,460 daily new fatalities. Per CDC website so far roughly 78%
Americans have been fully vaccinated. I would like to thank those of you have gotten COVID-19 vaccines
and please encourage others to get vaccinated as well. Data continues to show that the benefits of
getting the vaccine outweigh the risks. The vaccines have also been proven effective against the new
COVID-19 variants. It is a privilege that we can get the vaccine as so many others were not as fortunate
and lost their lives during the pandemic.

Best wishes,

Dr Hiep Le

Mother's Day is a special occasion celebrated across the world by many families.  Celebrations mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greek and Romans, who held festivals in the honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.  The American version of Mother's Day was created in 1908 by Anna Jarvis and became an official US holiday in 1914.  It was once a major tradition in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe to celebrate the fourth Sunday in Lent at a time when the faithful would return to their “mother's church”.  Over times, this tradition shifted to children presenting the mothers with flowers and tokens of appreciation in the 1930s and the 1940s.  On this day, we expressed our appreciation, respect, and love for our mothers. It is a day where we acknowledge the unconditional love and the many sacrifices made by our mothers that we are forever grateful for and may never be able to repay.  I hope you can celebrate this day with your loved ones and let your mom know how much you appreciate her.

I understand that Mother's Day this year may be especially difficult for some families as Covid -19 has taken many lives too soon.  I want to give my condolences to anyone that has lost a family member during this pandemic, and I hope you are able to spend this day with loved ones and honor the memories of the people we have loss.

I would also like to address any concerns that anyone may have around the COVID-19 vaccine.  Based on the constantly evolving data, I want to assure you that the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks.  Data has also shown that the vaccine is effective against the new COVID-19 variant B1.1.17 as well.  It is a privilege that we can get the vaccine as so many others were not as fortunate to get to this point and lost their lives early on during the pandemic.  Please do your part in getting vaccinated and protecting yourself and more importantly, protecting others that may be more vulnerable to the COVID-19 infection.

 Warmest regards,

December 24, 2020

Dear Patients, family, and friends,

Once again Christmas is here and like many of you are, I am ready to celebrate! Here’s
some history behind Christmas that I would love to share. Christmas is an annual festival
commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Although the month and date of Jesus’s
birth are unknown, the church fixed the date as December 25. This is the day when Earth has
maximally tilted away from the sun resulting in the shortest period of daylight and longest night
of the year. Christmas wasn’t declared a federal holiday in the United States until June 26,
1870, which is almost 100 years after the American revolution. For many of us Christians and
non-Christians here at home and around the world, Christmas truly is the most wonderful time of
the year. There is a tradition of giving sweets, chocolates, greeting cards, and many different
types of gifts to family members, friends, relatives, and neighbors. People celebrate by singing,
dancing and just spending time with their loved ones.

As we are about to celebrate this wonderful holiday, I am excited to update you on a few
developments in the fight against pandemic COVID-19. As you know the COVID-19 pandemic
is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory
syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). It was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China.
More than 85% of people who contract the virus have either no symptoms or mild symptoms but
15 % of people may have severe symptoms leading to severe illness and even deaths. From
the last update on December 23, 2020 on the CDC website, more than 78.5 million cases have
been confirmed, with more than 1.72 million deaths attributed to COVID-19 worldwide. Here at
home, there were 18,170,062 cases confirmed, with a total of 321,734 deaths. The prevalence
of COVID-19 is believed to be much high than confirmed cases as there are many that have
COVID-19 but are asymptomatic.

As of right now, there is a total of 57 vaccine candidates are in various stages of clinical
trials. I want to let you how the vaccines work. When you get a viral illness, your immune system
generates a lot of white blood cells called T-lymphocytes. The body takes time to make the
white cells needed to fight the infection. It usually takes a few days to a week for the body to
make enough T cells to fight off the infection. After the infection in question is cleared the body
keeps some T -lymphocytes and filed them as memory cells for the future in case someone is
exposed to the same virus again. There are Several COVID -19 vaccines have demonstrated
high efficacy at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 infections. The FDA has recently approved
Tozinameran vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech and MRNA-1272 vaccine by Moderna.
AstraZeneca’s COVID 19 vaccine and Janssen’s COVID 19 vaccines are currently in Phage 3
clinical trials both vaccines are in progress and I will update you about these vaccines when
more data become available.

Our office has gotten many questions about COVID-19 and the vaccines. The most
common questions being: Is it safe to get the vaccine? What side effects should I expect from
the vaccines? When should I get the second dose of the vaccine? If I got the vaccine, does that
mean I am immune from getting COVID-19? How long will the immunity from the vaccines last?
When and where should I get them? When I tested positive for the COVID-19 vaccine when
should I stop quarantine or go back to work? Finally, with the limited supply of the COVID 19
vaccines, who should be in line to get the vaccine first?

Before I answer many of your questions, I would like to remind you of vaccine
development. Vaccines are first started in the laboratory before any tests on animals or humans
are done. Typically, there are three phases of clinical trials. Once a vaccine has successfully
passed all the stages, the vaccine is submitted to FDA for approval which is required before any
vaccine becomes available to be given. COVID-19 vaccines were tested in large clinical trials to
make sure they meet safety standards. The COVID-19 vaccines contain only the dead material
from the virus, so the vaccine is considered safe and therefore you cannot get the COVID-19
illness from getting the vaccine. So far, all the COVID-19 vaccines will require two doses to get
the immunity needed to protect from the infection. There is only one COVID 19 vaccine which is
currently in phase three of the clinical trial which requires only one dose to get the immunity and
I will provide you more update about this vaccine when more data become available.

Nevertheless, both the COVID 19 and the vaccines are new, so we do not know of the
long term effects. What we do know is that COVID -19 has caused very serious illness and
many deaths. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine would be a safer choice. Most people do not have
serious problems after being vaccinated with the most common side effects being fever,
headache, soreness, or warmth to the touch. Persons with the virus and have symptoms may
discontinue isolation or go back to work when the symptoms of onset at least 10 days and that
he or she has been afebrile for at least 24 without the use of fever-reducing medication that the
symptoms have improved. Finally, the Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practices (ACIP)
4 groups that are recommended for early COVID-19 vaccination: Healthcare personnel workers
in essential and critical industries, people at high risk for severe COVID-19 -19 illness due to
underlying medical conditions including pregnant mothers, and people 65 years and older.

As we look upon the future, let us not forget who we have succumbed to the COVID 19
illness. It has been a very difficult year for us all, but we are resilient. I believe that we will get
out of the woods sooner than you may be expected. I commend you all for pushing forward
through the adversities and taking extra precautions to protect you and the people around you
from getting the COV ID 19 illness. At Westwood Family Medicine, your health is our main
priority, and we will do everything we possibly can to keep our patients safe and healthy. I want
to remind you that we have a walk-in welcome policy and recently we implement a telemedicine
visit service which allows me to have a medical consultation with you while you stay at home.
Without further ado, I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe Merry Christmas.
God bless you and God bless America!

Warm Wishes,

Dr. Hiep Le

Dear patients, family, and friends,

Thanksgiving Day, an annual national holiday that celebrates our blessings of the past year, is
upon us. Although 2020 has had many hardships and affected many different aspects of our
lives, let us reflect on what we are thankful for. I am thankful for my family, my friends, my
patients and everyone that is working together as we persevere through this tough year.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us look back on history to see how far we have come and the
reason to celebrate this day. In September of 1620, the Mayflower left Plymouth, England
carrying 100 passengers of religious separatists that were seeking a home where they could
freely practice their faith along with other individual lured by the prospects of prosperity and
opportunity for land ownership in the New World. After an enduring travel that lasted months,
the Mayflower crossed the Massachusetts Bay where the Pilgrims began establishing a home at
Plymouth.
We at Westwood Family Medicine want to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving. We also want to
encourage everyone to celebrate safely. Try to limit gatherings as much as possible, and also be
open to alternative ways to celebrate such as video conferences. Many of us are not able to see
family due to the pandemic and although it is a tough situation, I want to encourage everyone
to keep pushing through. Look ahead to the future and hold onto the hope of a better
tomorrow. We are strong, we are resilient, and we will get through this together.
Wishing you all the best,
Dr. Hiep Le

Dear Patients, Family, and Friends,

Hello everyone! This is Dr Le. I hope each one of you are doing well and staying safe during this difficulty

time as the pandemic continues. As you know, Halloween is here, and I am ready to celebrate this

magnificent Halloween as you all are as well. Nevertheless, I am keenly aware that it must be difficult for

some of you who has lost loved ones along the way due to COVID 19 infection and with that please

accept my deepest heartfelt condolence. You are never alone when you have the love and support from

family and friends. My wish for you at this time is peace and comfort as you are going through the

upcoming holiday season.

Halloween is upon us! This holiday is believed to date back to 1745 and is of Christian origin. It was

traditionally believed that the souls of the departed wandered the earth until All Saints Day, and All

Hallows Eve provided one last chance for the dead to gain vengeance on their enemies before moving to

the next world.  In order to avoid being recognized by any soul that may be seeking such vengeance,

people would don marks or costumes to disguise their identities.

Due to the COVID- 19 Pandemic, Halloween this year will be quite different in how we celebrate the

holiday. I want you all to take it as an opportunity to just relax and enjoy the holiday with your loved

ones. We are accustomed to trick-or-treating but with the current situation and precautions that must

be taken, now is the time to be creative! Think of ways that you can enjoy the day but also stay safe.

Form new traditions that your family can enjoy. Remember to wear a mask when in public and practice

social distancing when possible. We must work together to prevent the spread of the virus.  This is what

Halloween is all about. Express your creativity.

On behalf of Westwood family medicine office staff and myself, I want to wish you all a happy and

safe Halloween!

Dear Patients, Family, and Friends,

Summer is coming to an end with Fall coming right around the corner. I want to take this opportunity to let you all know that I hope that each and every one of you are having a great summer. Summer 2020 will be remembered for many generations to come as the COVID 19 pandemic has changed our lives in many fundamental ways. I want to remind you that hope is along the way as we enter Autumn, which is the season of change.

With Labor Day being one of the last summer holidays, I have done some research on it and wanted to share it with you all. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 with the very first Labor Day on December 5, 1882 in New York City. This holiday is celebrated by American workers and is celebrated on the first Monday of every September. This day serves as a tribute to American workers for their hard work and achievements. Our office will be closed the day after the Labor Day to allow our medical staff to have plenty of time to spend with families and loved ones and more importantly to unwind.

Let us not forget that we are in the middle of the COVID pandemic.  I encourage each one of you to take precautions when you find yourself in a crowd. If you are celebrating with others, we want to remind you to be careful and practice social distancing whenever possible. Wear masks in large crowds to not only protect yourself but also your loved ones.  It has been a while since my last update about the COVID 19 pandemic and I want to take this opportunity to provide you some updates. Per CDC 5,934,824 people have been infected and 182,149 people have died from the COVID 19.  As of yet there are no FDA approved drugs for the treatment of COVID 19. Nevertheless, there are medications and vaccines in the pipeline but still in the phase III trial and no data is currently available.  I will provide you an update when more data regarding vaccines and treatments becomes available.

On behalf of Westwood family medicine medical staff and myself, I want to wish you all a safe and happy Labor Day!

Dear patients, family, and friends,

Independence Day, or simply the “Fourth of July” for most Americans, marks the birthday of the

United States as an independent and free nation. As we celebrate the Fourth of July with

picnics and fireworks let us not forget the significance of the historic day. The holiday

celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1976. At the time, the

people of the 13 British colonies on the Atlantic Coast of America were fighting against unjust

treatment by the king in Britain. As the war continued, the colonists realized that they were

fighting for much more than better treatment; they were fighting for independence from

England’s rule.

We at Westwood Family Medicine want to wish you all a happy Fourth of July. We also want to

remind you that these are unprecedented times where we must celebrate with more

precautions. With everything going on in the world with the pandemic and the fight for social

equality for all, we encourage each one of you to be safe and continue to fight for

what is right. Practice social distancing whenever possible, and wear masks in large crowds to

not only protect yourself, but also your loved ones. Continue to speak for those that are not

heard and never let injustices go unspoken.

Let us love one another and proud to be Americans as we are living in THE greatest country

with so much freedoms. Having come here as a child from another country I am keenly aware of how

wonderful this country is. The freedoms that we sometimes take for granted are a wonderful gift

that our founding father created.

Dear Patients, Family and Friends,

The closing of Bluefield Regional Medical Center on July 31, 2020 has already impacted the Bluefield Area. It is a very disheartening time for us, with the loss of jobs, physicians, and a hospital that patients could call their own. A hospital that was once thriving for many years will be no longer in operation after July 31, 2020. I have done some research on Bluefield Regional Medical Center and would like to share some of its history with you.

Bluefield Sanitarium was established by Dr J Francke Fox in 1902. Dr Fox was an established surgeon when he decided to partner with several other local physicians and named his new health care facility the “Bluefield Sanitarium,” the name denoting a recuperative operation. Fox’s principal partner and closest friend Dr Wade St Clair, had outgrown their practice and found a perfect home for their young hospital on the Ramsey Street.  What started as a small building became a booming operation by 1921. The motto of the Sanitarium was to provide “adequate care, early diagnosis, and prompt treatment”.

As the population of Bluefield grew in the 1970’s, Bluefield Sanitarium had outgrown its home on Ramsey Street and needed a new structure to expand. By 1973, the City Board of Directors appointed a Hospital Advisory Committee. The committee implemented plans that called for a $20,000,000 250-bed development located on a 26-acre triangle between Cherry Street and Stadium Drive. The ground-breaking development took place on June 21, 1976 with the grand opening of the new Bluefield Community Hospital on June 3, 1979. In February 1980, the board hired Eugene P Pawlowski as hospital administrator after six months of the hospital’s opening. Pawlowski new corporate slogan “WE CARE,” stood for Concern, Awareness, Responsibility, and Enthusiasm,” a fitting anagram for Bluefield Community Hospital’s new regional presence.

His mission was to deliver the highest quality patient care possible. Throughout the early to mid-80’s, BCH continued to add more services for patients. Bluefield Community Hospital was at the forefront of medical technology. Increased demand for services began to warrant expansion. 1989 marked the tenth anniversary of the community-owned, non-profit hospital’s lovely Cherry Street facility. Sensing the region’s constantly changing needs, hospital leadership unveiled the hospital’s new name as “Bluefield Regional Medical Center” on June 30, 1989. The new name indicated that the hospital had grown and reflected the greater role in the area.

For the patients that are in need of a family physician, please do not fret. We here at Westwood Family Medicine will be stepping up for each of you during this frustrating time. I, Dr. Hiep Le, serve as the attending physician. I am a board-certified family physician with more than ten years of experience. I graduated with honors from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008 and did my residency at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. I currently have a beautiful clinic located at 12 Westwood Medical Park, Bluefield, Virginia. Additionally, Westwood Family Medicine is affiliated with the nearby Princeton Community Hospital where we can refer our patients to if needed.  We are accepting new patients and will be here for many more years to come. Our clinic offers wellness exams for all Medicare patients, well-child physicals, weight management, CDL physicals, EKG, urinalysis, and minor skin surgeries, which are just a few of the many things offered at Westwood Family Medicine. Clinic hours are designed to fit anyone’s work schedule. We take walk-ins and accept all insurances. There is also a policy in place so that the elderly, pregnant women, and newborns have no wait time. Lastly, I genuinely care about each and every one of my patients. I work extremely hard to see that my patients get the best care that they deserve. If you are looking for a caring and dedicated physician, call me, Dr. Le, for an appointment at 276-322-7548.

Dear patients, families, and friends,

This year, Father's Day will be celebrated on Sunday, June 21, 2020. Father’s Day became an official national holiday when President Nixon signed it into law in 1972. Needless to say, fathers should be celebrated each and every day, but this holiday is a reason to make them feel extra special.

Fathers and father figures play a particularly important role in society, but more importantly serve as role models and mentors for the youth in their lives.  Fathers teach their sons how to treat others and be honorable men when they grow up.  Fathers teach their daughters that they can ascend traditional norms and carve any path they wish to take.  The fathers in our lives inspire us to be the best that we can be. They encourage us to be better than them, to do what they couldn’t do and to always dream big.

My father was a nurse practitioner back in our Village in Vietnam.  As a child, I would watch him care for his patients. My father’s compassion for others eventually pushed me towards working in the clinic. With valuable lessons learned each day, I believe that it was there that I decided I wanted to be a doctor someday.  As I look back on the impact that my father has had on me, I feel strongly privileged that you trust me with your healthcare needs, and for that, I am forever grateful.  On behalf of my office staff and myself, I want to wish all of you a safe and happy Father's Day.

Wish you all the best,

Dear patient families and friends,

Tomorrow June 19 marks an important milestone in history, as it signifies the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African American to end slavery in the United States.  It has become a holiday that represents the start of a free life and brighter future for many.

With that said, we at Westwood family medicine understand that systemic racism still exists.  We understand that there are still many disparities within healthcare related to access and quality of care which is why we strive to provide the best possible care with flexibility to our patients.  We promised to do our part in combating healthcare disparities by providing the highest level of medical care to all our patients equally without prejudice.

As we reflected on Juneteenth and celebrate its significance, we encourage each one of you to focus on how far we have come and how much further we can progress.“Reach out and help others.  If you have the power to make someone happy, do it. Be a vessel, be the change, be the difference, be that inspiration.  Shine your light as an example.  They world needs more of that,” Germany Kent

Our clinic will be closed on Friday June 19, 2020 to observe this national holiday.  On behalf of the Westwood family medicine staff I would like to wish each and everyone of you an incredibly happy Juneteenth!

Dear graduates of 2020,

First, I want to congratulate all the graduating classes of

2020 from kindergarten through postgraduates

I am very proud of all the things that you have accomplished this far.  I know how hard you had to work to get where you are.  As you go forward in your future, I wish you all incredibly good luck.

As you go out into the world, you carry with you the hope of the future.  You were already a special group of people, but now you will always be remembered throughout history because of COVID-19.  Although you high school seniors missed out on some of the fun events that seniors usually attend, you have captured the heart of our nation.  I recognize your achievements and successes.  You all have an amazing opportunity going forward.  Grab hold and take as far as you can.  Take this hardship and use it as a platform to be the best college students and post graduate students in the science engineering mathematics technology the study of law, medicine, and the arts.  You had to grow up a little faster than most of the those at your age.  Use this to strengthen you as you go toward your future.  Hard work, determination and focus will be your best allies.  Your generation is the hope for making the changes that will save our world both now and into the future.

I came to America from Vietnam when I was 16 years old.  My mother left us when I was 6 years old.   though I faced hardship as a child through hard work determination, resilience, persistent and sacrifice I was able to become a physician.  I love being a physician and genuinely care for all my patients.  You can do this too.  I am happy to help any of you going forward with information reference letters mentoring shallow opportunities or in any way that I can be of service to you.  On behalf of Westwood Family Medicine, I want to personally congratulate you on all of your successes.  Good luck and go out and make a great life for yourself

Sincere yours,

Wishing you a peaceful Memorial Day!

Memorial Day is a time to reflect honor and remember all men and women that have fought and sacrificed their lives so that we remain free.  I have always been told that nothing is ever free.  Someone must pay for our freedom.

Memorial Day started right after the Civil War ended.  Some people believe that the Memorial Day started in Charleston South Carolina by free slaves honoring the Union Soldiers that perished in the war.  After World War I Memorial Day was expanded to honor all soldiers that died in war. However, it was not until 1971 when the Memorial Day became a Federal Holiday.

Memorial Day is unofficially the start of Summer.  Many people celebrate the 3-day weekend with parties’ barbecues and family get-togethers.  This year Memorial Day is on Monday 25th and across the United States there will be a national movement of remembrance at 3 PM local times.

To thank and honor our service men and women along with the elderly pregnant women and newborns I have implemented a policy of no wait time for appointments.

On behalf of Westwood Family Medicine, I want to wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Sincerely Yours,

Wishing all woman here at home and around the world of happy Mother's Day.

Mothers have been cherished throughout history, but a specific date to celebrate mothers became official in the United States in May 1914 when president with Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day.  This year the Mother’s Day is on Sunday May 10th.  It is a day to honor and celebrate the motherhood in our society.

There is nothing like the maternal bond and love of a mother.  All of our mothers, mothers to- be and grandmothers deserve our love admiration and attention all year long but most especially on Mother's Day.

Being raised mostly by my grandmother, I was taught to treat all woman with great respect.  It is because of the love and compassion that my mother and grandmother instilled in the me, that I am the doctor I am today.  They taught me to be patient kind and to always listen.  In my practice, we take great care to screen for abuse of women and children.  Many women come to my clinic for weight loss and family medicine care.  As a physician I am know that it is not your fault.  There are many health conditions that are causing weight gain.  We have a successful weight loss program and had many success stories.  We take walk-ins and accept all insurances.  Please call our office and speak with Joanne and she will schedule an appointment for you.

On behalf of Westwood Family medicine medical staff, I want to personally wish each and every mother mother-to be, and grandmother a beautiful Mother’s Day full of love and happiness.

April 11, 2020

Dear patients and friends,

During this worrisome time, I know that COVID -19 infection is on your mind. While this COVID -19 pandemic keep us physically apart, we are all together in spirit and heart and we will win this fight!  Spring season brings us a sense of hope as does Easter.

Easter holiday is the time when we recognize the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross and his Resurrection 3 days later. While we are in the spirt of celebration of the Easter holly holiday, I want to remind you of a small difference between the Eastern and Western orthodox Church.  In the Eastern Orthodox Church Easter will be Sunday, April 19, 2020.  The Western Orthodox Church Easter will be on April 12, 2020.  Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that occurs after the spring equinox.

Springtime is a time of renewal and rebirth. The births are symbolized by decorating hard boiled eggs in bright colors and decorations.  We celebrate the Easter with wonderful family gatherings.  Traditional baked harm or roasted leg of lamb and all the fixings grace everyone’s tables. The kids share their prettiest eggs and candies with all.  We celebrate the Easter with baby chicks, ducklings, lambs and bunnies.  The Easter bunny (us as parents) hide the eggs and the children find them and put them in their baskets. Then they get chocolates and presents all from the Easter bunny.

God loved us so much that he sacrificed His Son for us. That’s a lot of love and care for us all and how lucky we are. As I mentioned the words love and care I just want to remind you that all of us at Westwood Family Medicine love and care about you and your family. I personally want you to know that Myself and the entire Westwood Family Medicine medical staff are devoted to your healthcare needs. Please give us a call or stop by to see us with any health concern that you may have.

Happy Easter from our family to yours,

Best Regards,

Dr Hiep Le/ Office Manager Joann Worrell and the rest of medical staff at Westwood Family Medicine.
